01 / B2B acquisition & growth strategy

Beyond referrals: a new channel and a seven-figure customer win.

A referral-dependent specialty manufacturer tried paid search for the first time on my recommendation. Months later, a buyer who first found them through a Google Search ad signed a contract the client reports at roughly $1M.

Approximate period of performance-based strategic refinement.
4–6 months

The contract and discovery path were described directly by the client. This is not a claim that one campaign, one page, or the strategist alone generated $1M in attributable revenue.

The strategic shift

Referral-led opportunity flow

Intentional acquisition, connected messaging & measurement

The business challenge

Referrals had built the business. They couldn’t be the whole plan.

An established, specialized manufacturer wanted more qualified customers, access to adjacent industries, and less dependence on word-of-mouth. Paid search was new territory. The question wasn’t simply how to attract traffic; it was how to reach buyers whose needs matched the business.

Lead quality mattered far more than clicks.

The pivotal decision

Start with one market. Build the system around the buyer.

I identified and recommended a first paid acquisition program. Working directly with business stakeholders, I helped prioritize one initial market and define the ideal buyer profile, objectives, budget parameters, and acquisition direction. The recommendation was adopted and launched.

Paid media and copywriting specialists executed the campaigns. Over roughly four to six months we refined direction against KPIs and qualified-lead feedback. A buyer later told the client they first discovered the company through the paid search ad, and went on to sign a contract the client describes as approximately $1M. My role was to connect the opportunity, the messaging, and the commercial priorities—not to operate the advertising account.

How the strategy came to life

One acquisition decision. A connected growth system.

Acquire

Meet buyer intent

A new paid search program, guided by an agreed buyer profile and initial market focus.

Build trust

Make expertise visible

Thought leadership through a team representative, supported by a complementary brand social strategy.

Educate & nurture

Support the next decision

SEO-informed blog briefs and funnel-stage newsletters connected education to buyer readiness.

Improve conversion

Give the message a destination

I originated the messaging, initial copy, and functional landing-page concept for a target segment. Specialists later evolved that foundation.

Measure

Connect marketing to sales

I led a CRM dashboard initiative with a technical specialist and helped the client understand source attribution, MQL/SQL distinctions, pipeline stages, and ROI views.

Business impact / What changed

Business outcomes

A ~$1M customer, first found through search

The client reports that a buyer who first discovered them through the Google Search ad signed a contract of roughly $1M.

A first paid channel, launched

Paid acquisition moved from an untested recommendation to an active program, refined over roughly 4–6 months.

A clearer view from marketing to sales

CRM reporting helped the client see lead sources, qualification stages, and pipeline—supporting the strategy, not the headline result.

Source: client-reported contract value and discovery path; not independently verified or attributed revenue.

Clear ownership

Strategy led by me. Execution by specialists.

My role — Senior Marketing Strategist, within an agency engagement. This was a collaborative delivery model, not an independently acquired consulting client.

I led

  • Opportunity identification and strategic recommendation
  • Ideal buyer profile and direction with stakeholders
  • Initial conversion messaging and functional prototype
  • Cross-functional strategic alignment
  • Dashboard initiative and user enablement

Specialists executed

  • Paid media management
  • SEO optimization
  • Copy and design production
  • Technical dashboard setup

The distilled lesson

New channels work best when buyer intent, messaging, sales qualification, and measurement evolve together.

For a referral-led B2B business, the next growth opportunity may be a new channel. But the strategic work is making that channel part of a coherent commercial system.

Selected details have been generalized to protect client confidentiality. Strategy developed in an agency role.
